Safer Browsers

January 12, 2008

While working on one of my blogs today, I found out about a website called http://www.browsehappy.com promoting safer browsers. While looking at this site, I said to my wife, that I really don’t have any issues right now and can’t see the need to change. She replied, “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”. So, I did not change browsers. In the past I had multiple browsers on my PC. But, now that I have a new laptop that is one of the near top of the line models, I decided to keep it simple. I think what they are promoting does take some merrit. But, in my case, I’m not changing unless the need warrents.

Security Quiz – Are You a Security Wizard?

July 3, 2007

How well do you know computer and Internet security? Are you ready to test your knowledge and see how you rate according to the experts? A really good Security Quiz was developed by Agnitum.com. As quoted by Agnitum.com on their opening page for the quiz, “computers with Internet access are attacked by hackers on average every 39 seconds”. How ready are you?

The quiz located at http://www.agnitum.com/vote/stquiz/start.php offers good questions covering today’s security issues. I took the quiz and my score was 23 out of 30 and the quiz results indicated that I am headed in the right direction. After having worked for a data center for just under 18 years, I thought I knew quite a bit about security issues. Well, just goes to show you that “no bodies perfect”.

This quiz will definitely show you where you stand on what you know on security issues. When someone finishes taking the quiz, a results page is displayed. My only concern about the quiz is that people who are new to using computers may be clueless on some issues when taking the quiz, however, at least they would see where they stand.

While www.Agnitum.com has provided this security quiz, they also provide two major high quality security software products. See their website for details.

When I look for reviews to do, I look for products or websites that are very close to the focus of what I am writing about in this blog. I felt that this Security Quiz was a perfect match to write about. I am going to provide a link to this security quiz for anyone’s convenience. See the blogroll. Switchplanet – A social media trading site

June 25, 2007

I decided to start doing sponsored reviews and I found a website that I feel deserves being reviewed. Switchplanet.com which is a social media trading website where it’s members can switch their old DVDs, CDs, Games, and Books with other members for free. I felt that the concept was very interesting and useful especially since it’s mission statement reflects social responsibility.

Switchplanet - A social media trading site

The website http://www.switchplanet.com is very easy to use and has color coded sections. You have a choice between “cloud tags” and “list views” which I think is very neat in displaying what is available. The opening page is very clear and offers an option to check out the site before joining. The website has both a forum and a blog section. In addition to all the different media, you can search for other members and groups that are in Switchplanet.

How does switchplanet work and does it cost anything? Well, I have been so impressed with Switchplanet, that I decided to become a member myself! The initial sign up process is short and easy. Now, back to the question; first, it’s FREE, and there are no fees and you can verify this by referring to the FAQ section before joining. With Switchplanet, you trade stuff you have in order to get the stuff you want. Switchplanet uses what they call switchbucs which is their internal currency and other members make use of these switchbucs when they request items you have. When items that you send are received, switchbucs are automatically credited to your account. Once you have accumulated some switchbucs, you can request items from other members. The Frequently Asked Questions section provides a lot of information should you have any questions using Switchplanet.

While sharing problems and solutions is this blogs main focus, let’s here it for Switchplanet.com for solving a big issue by using more and wasting less by trading the stuff we have for the stuff we want as quoted by Switchplanet.com. This is a sponsored review, done by Tim Beck.
