Bigger screens don’t mean more screen space

March 4, 2007

A couple of weeks ago one of our VP’s got a huge computer screen to use. It’s probably 2 to 3 times as big as your average computer flat screen. I don’t remember the dimensions. Well, the reason why he got it was for the purpose of getting more on the screen instead of having a very clogged smaller screen. Well, that didn’t work out very well. All he is getting is a much bigger image. Has to do with the pixel sizes. So what he sees is magnified compared to a normal flat screen. So, he is using it as an extra screen tied to his laptop. They have a drag and drop ability for displays. I thought it was quite impressive until I heard what he was trying to do. Not sure if there are any other kind of monitors out there that offer what he was looking for.

Using Passwords

March 4, 2007

With security being crucial today, you really can’t write down passwords. You need to create clever ones that you can easily remember. This way, you don’t have the need to write them down thus taking the chance someone will find your password list. A good way to create a password is to think of a catchy phrase to remember. Such as ILuv2run or Got2go or something like that. You should also remember not to include passwords in emails that you send to people.
Have people contact you for the password. Also remember to change them on a regular basis as an extra precaution.

A clean workarea

March 4, 2007

Wow, if you could have seen my PC today, you would have been amazed. My whole desk was a dust magnet. I spent a couple of hours cleaning my desk and computer area. And I’m the one who put posts up regarding Routine Maintenance. I used one of those Swiffer dusters to clean my desk. I really didn’t know had bad the desk was until I got into it. I guess, I should practice what I preach eh? Well you should see my desk now. Our one foster kid walked into the office today and just stared in disbelief. You should have seen his look. My desk is cleaner than it’s been since last summer or maybe even longer. I can actually get some work done now. And I did, I just did some work on creating a basic computer course which will be available soon on the New PC Users blog. Stay blogged.
